My whole time in service was at one base… Vance AFB, Enid, Oklahoma and I got to live there a whole 6 years…
While living in Enid, after the birth of my 2nd child, I joined the Air Force and got married, because you couldn’t serve as a single parent… So my son’s dad and I tied the knot… He was #2 husband… and He was assigned to Vance AFB…
Me, being a dumb kid and I was beyond naive and dumb about some things and I had no clue that Vance was not an assignment anyone really wanted… but I didn’t know that and my oh so smart husband, never said a word to me about any of it, when I would call from basic in tears, missing my baby, getting no sysmpathy and my sister pulls crap and I get another month in basic, but that’s not the story right now…
Now is the story about Vance AFB…

Well basic is coming to an end after my extended stay and my assignment, to Colorado to supply training and I am like, no way Jose, we is going to Vance and I did some asking and because my scores were high, I was sent straight to Vance from basic training to the dental clinic with zero training… Nada, zip and boy did I turn green, but that’s another story…
So I been at Vance and hubby #2 and I divorce and I marry #3 and we get base housing and I file for divorce but because of rank I get to stay in base housing… (Still with me???)
Because of divorce #3… Bills had to be paid, because of course the girl with the kids gets the bills and the guys get to go off and play with more uh, we’ll leave it there…
I get a job at a high end eating place in town, ya know, piano music, fancy, out of my budget type joint and I am a good waitress and make good money and start paying off bills…
Well the First Sargeant of the base had a 13 or 14 year old son and he offered him as a babysitter and I thought great, kids in bed, no daycare… awesome…
Then one night I take the boys to get dinner and a new skirt for my job and my son asks me if so and so is babysitting… My son is only 6 years old and I tell him yes….
Okay my heart is beating out of my chest all these decades later…
My son, holding my hand proceeds to tell me in the middle of Sears about being raped and I hit the floor in a puddle, stunned, in shock, outraged and gasping for air… A clerk came running to help me up…
So where does the ghost come into play???
One of those nights, we close up the joint and the 3 of us left have a drink and shoot the breeze and all of a sudden a cold chill filled the room and spooked us all and I stood up, slammed my drink down and said I gotta go…
I drove like a idiot that night and nearly ran the gate keeper (security police over going thru the gate to get to my house)…
I pulled in the driveway and the house was dark and as I opened the door it hit me, a wave of gas so strong, I gasped for air…
I dropped my stuff and ran next door of the duplex for my supervisor screaming at him to call fire department and told him our unit was full of gas…
I ran back to my unit and dragged the babysitter out then went back in for my boys…
I never touched a thing when I enetered that night… I am shaking right now and the tears, they so want to fall…
Because that night, the babysitter had raped my child and tried to take his life and my boys and any houses connected on that gas line…
That ghost was a chilll I never understood until I found out my grandpa had been stationed at Vance AFB during WWII…
I remember… the ghost is Fredas father, my granpa… my son was his first great-grandchild… I was his first female grandchild…
