Occurrence of respiratory syncytial virus subgroup A and B strains in Japan, 1980 to 1987

I have been trying to remember what happened on Japan and I know the kids were at my parents in Arkansas during this time period and John and I were in a bowling league and I don’t think I was working at that time…

I had quit Protocol after Col Couch got promoted and given a command on Korea… The new guy, couldn’t stand him… I walked…

So kids are states side and John and I are working on our marriage and I get this RSV and like I wrote before…

I was in the 10th frame of bowling a perfect game and all I could do, walk up to the line and lay the ball down and give it a little swing… I was really out of it by that frame and I got a 9/spare and the next frame was another strike… See Yokota AFB Margaret Glass highest scratch game, add my handicap and it was like wow… yea it was funny but not funny…

We get home after that and thats the last thing I remember… I know the base got hit hard and some people died…

I always thought it was SARs, because I went to the expense of paying for my own RSV vaccination in 23, not waiting on the VA to do it and that shot was $291….. So did I really need it???

I was born with double phneumonia and I had chronic bronchitis my whole life… Got told I had COPD back in 08… but the guy didn’t take into consideration my rib cage is thicker than it should be and that has made it harder for me to expand, been that way since I was active duty when they found out my rib cage at 24 was that of a 64 year old… The beatings were that severe… I had arthritis all over my body…

Anyway…

Eureka… It wasn’t SARs we had… But a big time flu issue in the 80’s and it was going on the whole time we were there and I’ll be honest, not to sure I got any flu shots while we were there… I don’t miss any now… Just got Covid and tri flu shot Tuesday ….

So there is my answer…

I had RSV on Japan, it is documented at NIH and other places about that time period… and I do know, lots of us got it on base… Lots of us didn’t get the flu shots either… In fact, I skipped the flu shot until 2006… I skipped 20 years of shots is my guess…

Now did that RSV cause a brain fog or were the brain fogs directly related to surgeries where they gave me way to much, used a breathing tube and created more issues with my healing brain…??? Those are questions I will ask the neuro guy when I send him the book transcript… Unless I figure it out first…

I remember… at least today seems a good one for it…
