This is one of those Eureka moment’s in my memories and this is crucial because…. It was before Texas, but after near death # 1…
So what has me all in a twitter??? FREDA!!!!
We owned the trailer… It was probably 40 or 50 foot long and it’s kitchen was in the front with a Bay window and the living room right behind that, then the hall, then my bedroom with my sister, then another bedroom or bathroom and then the main bedroom at the back… and WE OWNED IT!!! circa 1967….
We brought that trailer from Kansas, where we had been stationed and followed behind it as it was towed to Montgomery, Alabama… Now to keep this short and give you some background information, keep up…
We are stationed there from 1963 till 1967… During that time Don went to the bay of pigs on TDY (temporary duty assignment) and I went to school for 4 years outside Gunter AFB… In fact a kid in that school was related to JFK and when he was assasinated, we found out she was his cousin…
While Don was at the bay of pigs, the boob incident happened and when I write the book that story will be in detail… a lot went down on that event and it cost my older half brother his life… and it made my sister a total, yea, I’ll be polite, but bitch fits… ready early blog…
Don comes back and things are quiet and I repeat 4th grade, due to the near death experience and Don gets orders for Vietnam, DaNang, orange depot base…
Now this is where the memory is still a little clouded….
Normally when you get shipped to war, you stay put, your family does… Because you have no idea what assignment you will get after your deployment to war, so you move as a family to the next assignment…. Well that didn’t happen with Don’s assignment and it was because Freda threw a fit…
Now I can’t tell you for sure that Granny was still in Bonita at that time, but I think she was… Because of what I remember about Freda having her breakdown…
So Don is in Vietnam and Freda decides she wants to move to Bonita while Don is in Vietnam… No reason for us to move… We had a place to live, we owned our trailer and we were near a base and medical and everything, so why move???
I have a half sister that Freda got pregnant with in Bonita… The dude lived in a parish outside Bonita and I see my sister’s doppleganger on TV frequently… They aren’t poor folks by any means and they weren’t poor back in 1966….
So Don is in Vietnam and Freda sells the trailer and moves us all to Bonita and money gets real tight and we go hungry and Freda has a breakdown and Don gets brought back from Vietnam and Big Springs, Texas here we come…
Remembering what Freda did during this time period with the trailer is something I had totally lost in my memory system…
We were better off staying put, till Don came back from Vietnam… But Freda’s hormones, which I wrote about before… Played a huge part in her mental illness and thus… Life and death met each other in Big Springs, Texas because of a child not of my dad’s blood…
I hope more memory pops up today and I can get it down… But this was a huge one… It puts me right in the middle of my two near deaths!!!
I remember….
