Living with anyone with a neurological disease can be trying at the best of times and when you spent the last 23 years flipping houses across the U.S. and Hawaii… You learn a lot…

Homer has a degree in architecture and I worked various government jobs over the decades and between the 2 of us… Our last flip, was written up as the best remodel in the county… and we lost money…
We lost money, because Homer’s dementia was picking up steam and if I let him do what he wanted, it never went the way it should… I can count the number of houses we had to redo a floor, because, yep, mistakes were made… Be laminate or tile or wood… You can’t afford to screw up…
The last house, I knew within a year of owning it, Homer was having issues and I struggled to come up with the signature loans, maxing out our credit cards, not once but twice and I scrounged for every dime I could get, to pay for extra help and we had to gut the basement, redo plumbing and the whole house had to be rewired…
We did it, but mistakes were made and when those mistakes had to be redone, I had to step in and take over… Yet… it wasn’t 100% obvious but it was obviously expensive what was happening…
By the time I let Homer get a new used truck to pull our 5th wheel, I knew, we needed to land someplace that had everything easy for me to get too, becasue I knew… All this extra expense for the last couple decades was finally going to get a name…
Alzeheimers…
So why the write…???
The 5th wheel sits in the driveway… all 40 foot of it and it is nice and has a lot of sensors and yesterday I keep hearing a beep, every time I went outside and I traced it down to inside the 5th wheel…
The sensor for smoke and Co2 was beeping and it was beeping because the county in their wonderous stupidity is doing a controlled burn and we are on the edge of the area they are burning and smoke isn’t supposed to be impacting residents… Well if you are inside it’s not… But… It is impacting the 5th wheel!!!!
So research to figure out a way to disable it and Homer wants to do this or that and I am thinking, yea, I’ll take the cover off, but if it’s not straightforward wiring I can disconnect, not touching it and it wasn’t, so I put the panel back on and told Homer we are done… Not touching it, not messing with it, not doing anything…
Why???
Because as it is, I have a fan to wire, which I still haven’t done after I installed it and I have a hot water heater for that tin can arriving next week and the last thing I want problems with, is fuses, or wiring or batteries or anything… So…
I opened the slides and turned the AC on, and it recycles the air in the tin can and stops the sensor from going off…
A few dollars extra on my electric bill and nothing else I need to fix, repair, or rewire…
That’s what happens as the dementia transitions from one stage to another… What was easy but not starightforward is now hard and confusing and I can’t afford to take any more risks, because I don’t want to hurt his feelings…
It’s coming down to what is best for the whole picture and not just my patient…
I hope I don’t have trouble installing the heater, it’s exactly like the one I am pulling and the fan came out sweet, I just don’t want to wire it wrong, so I will be asking for help… and the roof looks amazing with 2 coats of elastimeric on it… reflects the heat nicely… Solar panel works great for the lights and batteries… It’s a nice 5th wheel…
I just can’t tow it… It terrifies me… So up for sale after I am done and hopefully word of mouth will get some attention, if not, then I’ll advertise it… Till then, it’s a nice guest house…
I remember… I can’t afford you anymore…
