Soldiers and marines, waiting on orders for Vietnam… I prefered Singapore Slings or Whisky Sour’s… That’s me, getting goosed…
We stayed in that hotel for a few months and on occasion out of boredom, my sister and I would go out and explore and we came across, “BC street”… and anyone who was ever military and was on Okinawa… YOU KNOW!!!
Anything you can imagine could be found and could be found doing it to each other… First time I saw a few things and the last time at 17… and my first exposure to LGBTQ, which would be important later in life…
We get base housing and Don gets to drive to Kadena from Naha, not a fun drive and congested and our high school is Kubasaki high is for the whole island, so we have rival teams, dependent upon your base, where you were living… and back in the 70’s there were a few of everything… (Naha closed in the late 70’s and was turned over to the Japanese)…
I went all over that island and a great many things changed while we lived on that island that would impact my father’s military career and have a lasting impact on me and my siblings…
What was it that went down that changed everything???
I kept quiet, when I held all of their futures in my 17 year old hands…
Okinawa was pivotal in my story…
I remember…
